Tracking of dynamic arm motion estimation and interaction with fuzzy control

    Get PDF
Considerable effort has been put toward the development of intelligent and natural interfaces be- tween users and computer systems. In line with this endeavor, several modes of information (e.g., visual, au- dio, and pen) that are used either individually or in combination have been proposed. Multi-projector dis- play systems are gaining popularity for use in immersive virtual reality applications and scientific visualization. While recent work has addressed the issues of human interfaces to hide the distributed nature of those sys- tems, there has been relatively little work on natural interactive modalities. In this paper, based on the dis- crete characteristics of node distribution and the spatio- temporal coherence of the users movement, we propose a non-contact interactive solution for multi-projector display system. Utilizing a virtual three-dimensional interactive rectan- gular parallelepiped, we establish correspondence be- tween the virtual scene and the users arm position in- formation. For robustly tracking the users arm position, an arm motion estimation method is designed based on the fuzzy predictive control fuzzy Mamdani algorithm theory. To verify the efficiency and accuracy of the pro- posed method, we use a Kalman filter algorithm to test stabilize the output

Documents translations are still ambiguous when we translate them using by word, by phrase or by context technically separately and based on different readers’ understandings. Typically, the documents translation in different languages is found not well structured technically that leads to the misunderstanding amongst readers. Hence, there is a necessity for improving the Quran documents translation for providing the right sentences (ayats) in other languages as better as possible technically. The concept of source language and target languages is most importantly in designing the right algorithm as new approach for explaining the source of documents language in the form of the target of documents languages. In designing a new approach based on the said concept, the indexing technique is necessarily for retrieving the target translation from target language as called as multilingual information retrieval (MLIR). Thus, this paper proposes the Indexed References for retrieving the target-translated documents based on the structure index of each document (text file). Thus, Quran documents are translated easier based on unique structure index of each documents either indexing each Surah (Chapters) or indexing each Ayah (Verses) plus Surah as a unique reference. The documents translations retrieval based on Indexed Reference technique is more accurate at 99.99% comparing to the experimental separation of by word, by phrase and by concept translation technique. The proposed technique is useful for documents-to- documents translation retrieval in all languages of world

The writingsofthe Quran has begun since the time of the Prophet (PBUH) and it has continued until today. It has been proven that here are manuscripts of the Quran around the world that are handwrintten. The Quran manuscripts of the great works are so meticulous and scattered around the world. The writing activity or the so-called copying is carried out on the basis of honor to the kalam AllÄh. Thus, the preliminary study is conducted on a Turkish Quran manuscript written by Hasan Husni. The manuscript is a collection of Yayasan Warisan Johor (YWJ), Johor Bahru. However, there is no computerized system for saving the manuscript proper manner and secured electronically as well as may be referred and retrieved in the future. The purpose of this study is to find out the method of writing al-Quran based on the focus on knowledge of rasm, marking (dhabt al-Quran), fawasil, forms of illumination and calligraphy and saved in database management system (DBMS) properly with authentication. In addition, it is intended to highlight YWJ's contribution in preserving the manuscripts of the Quran in the state of Johor. This study isa qualitative method using content analysis approach. The findings show that the Turkish manuscripts contain very beautiful local features and further studies should be conducted specifically on the perspectives of the Quran

Evaluation of Rayleigh Damping Coefficients for Laminated Rubber Bearing Components Using Finite Element and Experimental Modal Analysis

    Get PDF
Laminated rubber bearing is a significant device found in structures such as bridges and buildings. It is used to isolate the foundation and the superstructure from seismic loads. Since it is made up from a combination of rubbers and steel plates in alternate layers which make the laminated rubber bearing a complex material, the measurements of damping of the laminated rubber bearing is difficult in practice. Damping is a dissipation of energy or energy losses in the vibration of the structure when the structures are excited with external dynamic loading. An accurate value of damping is very important as damping plays a crucial role in fixing the borderline between stability and instability in many structural systems. Therefore, it is essential to determine the accurate value of damping in structural analysis. Finite element and experimental modal analysis is one of the methods that can be used to determine dynamic properties including damping in any structures. Hence, the main objectives of this research are to determine the natural frequencies, mode shapes, Rayleigh’s damping coefficients, α and β and to evaluate the performance of the laminated rubber bearing components i.e. steel and rubber plates using finite element and experimental modal analysis. Based on the finding, the finite element modal analysis with the added Rayleigh’s damping coefficients α and β shows a good agreement with the experimental modal analysis in term of natural frequencies and mode shapes. The value of natural frequencies reduces after the Rayleigh’s damping coefficients are added into the finite element modal analysis and the minimum and maximum displacement are found to be unaffected by the Rayleigh’s damping coefficients for rubber plate. It can be concluded that modal analysis method can be used to estimate the accurate values of damping ratio and to determine the Rayleigh’s damping coefficients α and β as well

Implementation of Project Based Learning (PtBL) in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) as part of Outcome Based Education (OBE) framework have faced various challenges (i.e revamp on the undergraduate co-curricullum, required high commitments from academicians & faculty and facilities to cater PtBL activities). This paper discusses the effectiveness of PtBL teaching method in an effort to develop the students’ soft skills in tandem with the technical or professional competencies; and problems, challenges and potential improvement in the course. The Survey Camp course which is offered at year one of a four years civil engineering degree programme in the Faculty of Civil Engineering (FKA), UTM was chosen for this study. It is a ten days fieldwork in which the students will carry out an engineering survey project from field to finish in groups of five to six students supervised by the academic staff. Assessment of the technical aspects was based on the students ability to meet the minimum engineering surveying’s standard whereas the assesment of soft skills was conducted during various sessions of the survey projects. Survey questionaires were given at the beginning and the end of the course as part of evaluation of the course effectiveness. The research has found that the technical aspects were achievable though with lesser degree for the engineering design. However, on the soft skills, students demonstrated an overall improvement of competency but it was difficult to determine the levels for the average students while the best and poor performers were easily observed
